Douglas Laing
launch the third 70th Anniversary XOP
Platinum bottling, this time it is a
Glen Garioch 25 Year Old, 1993 Vintage,
single cask, single malt.
As
Douglas Laing continues their year of
70th anniversary celebrations they have
unveiled the third of four special XOP Platinum
bottlings which they are releasing
throughout the year, this time the Glasgow
whisky bottler and soon to be maker
has released a limited edition Glen
Garioch 25 Year Old 1993 Vintage
single cask, single malt.
The XOP Platinum Glen Garioch 25 Year
Old Single Cask Single Malt was finished
in an ex-Sherry Cask and has been
bottled at an impressive natural
cask strength of 58.4% ABV considering
its age, indicating that that it was a
pretty tight grained single cask which
it spent 25 years maturing in.
As you would expect for such a premium
bottling from Douglas Laing it has been
bottled without colouring or
chill-filtration which should add to the
overall pleasure.
Presented in premium packaging, crafted
to reflect the age and rarity of the
spirit, each bottle label has been
hand-signed and individually numbered by
Fred and Cara Laing, who have selected
all four of the XOP Platinum Single
Casks.
The third in a planned collection of
four, this release follows the Ardbeg
Vintage 1992 launched in March and Port
Dundas Vintage 1974, unveiled in June, both
of which sold out in record time and I
cant see why this latest offering in the
series will not catch the attention of
the whisky connoisseurs and collectors
and sell out just as quickly.
Cara Laing, Director of Whisky at
Douglas Laing, commented: "2018
continues to be both a busy and exciting
year for us at Douglas Laing & Co. Our
Platinum Anniversary has been a real
landmark highlighting our 70 years in
the Whisky industry and these latest
bottlings are indicative of our
commitment to releasing excellent Single
Cask Scotch Whiskies from all across
Scotland’s Whisky regions and at a
variety of ages."
Another interesting release
from Douglas Laing
this month is the latest expression in
their Provenance Coastal Collection,
another series of four whiskies from the
Glasgow bottler. This time they have
released a 6
Year Old Single Cask, Single Malt from
the Caol Ila Distillery on Islay, yes it
is young at 6 Years Old but this can be
a good thing for a peaty whisky and
Douglas Laing's tasting notes for this
young Caol Ila certainly describe it as
a peaty whisky, proclaiming "loads of
Islay peat" alongside "soot, ash and
coal dust".
The Provenance Coastal
Collection Caol Ila 6 Year Old is
charged from an ex-Bourbon cask that
yielded just 405 bottles, it has been
bottled at 48% ABV without colouring or
chill-filtration and with a slightly more
drinkable price tag than the XOP.
The Provenance
Coastal Collection Caol Ila 6 Year Old,
RRP £58/€65T and the XOP Platinum Glen Garioch 25 Year
Old, RRP of £311/€350 will both be
available from September 2018 from
specialist online whisky retailers such
as The Whisky Exchange
and
Master of
Malt
