The Dalmore Rivers Collection

20th January 2011

Luxury malt The Dalmore has launched a collection of four bespoke whiskies to raise much needed funds to conserve Scotland’s most important salmon rivers.

It’s the first time the Dee, Spey, Tay and Tweed trustees have worked together with one partner to raise funds to protect some of Scotland’s finest sport and tourist attractions.

The move follows the success of the Dalmore Dee Dram, which was launched last year and sold out in nine weeks raising £35,000 to help enhance this iconic fishing spot.

It was this success that led to the wider partnership with the award-winning brand and the creation of four very different whiskies, each one crafted to represent and celebrate the uniqueness of each location.

The money raised by the Dalmore Dee Dram is helping to open up 25 miles of river and important spawning grounds that have been blocked for as long as 100 years.

The Dalmore Rivers project promises to have even wider reaching conservation impact across all four rivers, helping to protect salmon, sea trout, otters, rare birdlife and many other plants and animals.

The Dalmore hopes to raise in the region of £400,000 a year through the so called 'rivers collection'.

John Beard, CEO of Whyte and Mackay which owns The Dalmore brand, said:

"We are delighted to help raise money for Scotland’s big four rivers. They are not only loved by fishing fans and tourists alike, but they are also the lifeblood of smaller communities across Scotland."

"As our successful partnership with the Dee Trust has shown, this project is a fantastic way of providing a special dram to enjoy after fishing whilst also helping to protect these rivers which have been enjoyed by anglers for centuries."

Each expression within the Dalmore Rivers collection has been individually matured in a combination of bourbon American White Oak and the finest Oloroso "Matuselem" sherry wood from world-renowned bodega Gonzalez Byass, Spain. Each whisky in the Dalmore Rivers Collection retains the signature Dalmore style but each is very different from the other.

Bottled at 40% ABV, priced at £40, for every single bottle sold a minimum donation of £4 will be gifted to the relevant river trust or foundation. This can, in turn lead to additional match funding from additional sources which could double the funds raised.

The Dalmore Spey Dram

The River Spey is world-renowned as a classic Salmon fishing river which runs through the heart of Scotland’s malt whisky country. In recognition and celebration of the iconic status of the River Spey and those who travel from around the world to fish it, we have created this exclusive expression of the Dalmore.

Behind the scenic beauty of the majestic River Spey lies a delicate and sensitive environment, which is conserved and enhanced through the tireless work of the Spey Foundation. A generous donation from each bottle sold is gifted to the Spey Foundation to support and further their excellent work.

The Dalmore Tay Dram

The mighty river Tay is renowned as the largest of Scotland’s great salmon rivers. The “Silvery Tay” is steeped in fishing legend and is famed for Salmon of prodigious size. The most famous of these, which weighed in at a staggering 64 pounds, was caught by Miss Georgina Ballantine in 1922. Miss Ballantine’s record remains unbroken, even today.

In recognition of the mighty Tay we have created a unique expression of the Dalmore to celebrate its power and majesty. To support and further their unceasing work, a generous donation is made to the Tay Foundation from the sale of every bottle of this exceptional single highland malt whisky.

The Dalmore Tweed Dram

The Tweed is the most prolific salmon river in the British isles, flowing majestically through the beautiful and historic Borders countryside from its source high in the open hills above Moffat. Tweed is at its most scenic in the latter half of the year as the leaves begin to turn, the air gathers a chill, and the world famous autumn Salmon run arrives.

Protecting and preserving the delicate balance of Tweed and its precious resources is the challenging role of The Tweed Foundation. In recognition of Tweed and its rich history we have created a unique expression of the Dalmore. A generous donation is gifted to The Tweed Foundation from the sale of every bottle sold, to support and further the excellent work it does on behalf of all who love this great River.
