The Dalmore
unveil new 40 year old expression.

The Dalmore has
unveiled a new Dalmore 40 Year Old
expression, as you can imagine given its
age it will have limited availability
with only 750 bottles being released
worldwide over the course of the next
four years.
The Dalmore 40 spent most of its 40
years maturing in American white oak
ex-bourbon casks, before being
transferred into Gonzalez Byass
Matsualem Oloroso sherry butts for seven
years, which
themselves had previously held 30 year
old Oloroso sherry, it was finally
finished in first fill bourbon barrels.
Bottled at 42% ABV, The Dalmore describe
the 40 year old single malt as "a liquid
featuring flashes of amber and fire
gold, offering a multitude of aromas
including Columbian coffee and
marmalade. On the palate, gingerbread
and honey is followed by a generous
aftertaste of Sanguinello blood oranges
over ripe Bramley apples and liquorice
sticks."
As you would expect for such a release it is presented in premium
packaging, the hand-blown decanter was designed by
renowned French crystal house Baccarat,
it is adorned
with The Dalmore’s iconic 12 point Royal
Stag emblem created by Royal Warrant
Holders Hamilton & Inches.
As those of you familiar with The
Dalmore whisky would already have
guessed, the new 40 year old is the
handy work of Dalmore's veteran Master
Distiller Richard Paterson who is
currently celebrating his 50th year in
the whisky industry.
Master Distiller Richard Paterson
commented on his latest premium creation
saying: "In the year that I reflect on
my time in the whisky industry, and
indeed at The Dalmore, it has been a
great privilege to release two of our
greatest ever aged expressions – first
the champagne finished 50 years old and
now this exceptional 40.
"With each new release I strive for
depth and complexity, pushing the
boundaries of whisky making and building
on the knowledge and skills passed down
from my predecessors. It takes time,
effort and vision to create an
expression as complex as The Dalmore 40
years old, moving the rare stocks of
whisky between casks to build layer upon
layer of character. When you bring it
all together, it creates something very
special indeed."
As
you can imagine the new Dalmore 40 year
old whisky is for those of you with deep
pockets and will set you back around
£6,250, you will find it available from
specialist online whisky shops such as
