Dewar's
launch Craigellachie 33 year old
exclusively in global travel retail.
 Following
on from the success of the Craigellachie
31 year old in the domestic market,
Craigellachie distillery owners John
Dewar & Sons have launched a
Craigellachie 33 Year Old expression exclusively in
global travel retail.
Selected by John Dewar & Sons malt master and
master blender, Stephanie MacLeod, the
limited edition small batch release
Craigellachie 33 year old was distilled
in 1983 and has been released under
Dewar's Exceptional Cask Series, a
collection of what Dewar's describe as
"extremely rare" ultra-premium aged
whiskies which will only be available in
limited runs and in the case of the
Craigellachie 33, it is limited to 1,700
worldwide.
Craigellachie do not reveal what type of oak casks the
whisky has matured in but I can only
assume going by the tasting note on the
bottle label that there was a sherry
cask involved somewhere in the 33 years
of maturation, the tasting note from the
label of the bottle describes the whisky
as a "Muscular Speyside malt meets rare
sherry finesse in a one-off whisky,
explosive sulphury aromas, cereal
complexity, exotic fruits, a creamy
finish".
Bottled in February 2017 at a batch strength of
46% ABV, non chill-filtered and natural
colour the whisky will have a £2,000
price tag and will initially be
available in World Duty Free World of
Whiskies stores in Europe including
Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Birmingham
and Manchester. This will be followed by
other select travel retail stores across
Asia Pacific later this summer.
