English single malt whisky coming to the
shelves of Waitrose.
 Following on from the Cotswolds
single malt whisky launching in
World Duty Free stores at Birmingham,
Bristol and East Midlands airports
during the summer, the
English single malt whisky has now
secured itself its first national retail
listing with a place on the shelves of
Waitrose.
The Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky, which
was only launched in October 2017, has already accumulated an impressive
nine medals and awards in its first year
on the market will have a nation-wide
listing in Waitrose & Partners.
The whisky, which is bottled non-chill
filtered and at 46% ABV, will be
available at the majority of Waitrose
stores across the UK and on Waitrose.com
at an RRP of £45. Described as a rich
and fruity single malt, it has been aged
in a combination of first-fill
ex-Bourbon casks and specially shaved,
toasted and re-charred red wine
barriques.

The whisky, which recently took Gold at
the New York World Wine & Spirits
Competition and two stars at the Great
Taste Awards, has benefitted from a
number of production techniques often
considered too costly or inefficient in
the wider whisky industry. In
particular, the distillery is committed
to using only barley grown on local
farms in the Cotswolds, and each bottle
lists the barley variety, harvest year
and farm it was grown on.
The listing of the Cotswolds Single Malt
Whisky coincides with an expansion of
Waitrose & Partners’s listing of the
distillery’s award-winning Cotswolds Dry
Gin. The gin was first listed as part of
the retailer’s regional producers
scheme, and has been available at 10
stores in and around the Cotswolds area
since July 2017. Having enjoyed
considerable success in the initial
listing, the gin will now be rolled out
to stores across the country.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Some toasty oak, creamy sweet vanilla
toffee and a
lovely touch of rich fruit, peaches and
cooked apples. A slight feintiness.
Taste:
Deliciously malty, a barley sugar
sweetness, some dark treacle toffee with
a gentle rich orange citrusy edge, a
lovely light touch of oak spice hanging
around the background.
Finish:
Medium to long, vanilla with a citrusy edge,
becomes spicier, a little drying as it
fades.
Comment:
It is hard to believe that this is only
3 years old, if tasted blind I would
doubt anyone would guess its correct
age. An outstanding young whisky with a
lovely first fill bourbon influence
combining well with some delicious fruit
from the ex-red wine cask. Of course
there is still a sign of youth, just the
slightest feintiness with the first
couple of mouthfuls which quickly fades
and lets the quality and character of
the young whisky and the casks it
matured in shine.Time will tell just
how good the Cotswolds whisky will get
but at 3 years old things are looking
very promising for this new English
single malt whisky. Meanwhile grab
yourself a bottle of this new and most
importantly enjoyable English whisky.
