Whisky Focus - Chivas Regal Ultis The First Blended Malt From Chivas

Introducing the Chivas Regal Ultis, the first ever Chivas Regal blended malt whisky.

Chivas Regal has announced the launched of its first ever Blended Malt whisky, Chivas Regal Ultis. Ultis is no standard blended malt either, this is coming in at the premium end of the whisky scale going by its £157 / US $200 retail recommended price.

Chivas Regal Ultis carries no age statement and is a blend of five of Chivas Regal's signature single malts from Speyside, which Chivas says represent the style and diversity of this prestigious, world-renowned Scotch whisky region..

Ultis has been crafted with hand-selected malts from Tormore, Longmorn, Strathisla, Allt A’Bhainne and Braeval, which Chivas tell me presents: "complex flavours, a golden hue and a commanding rich aroma".

Since 1909, only five men have ever mastered the iconic Chivas Regal house style, and the five single malts selected for the Chivas Regal Ultis blended malt in a way pays tribute to the mastery of Master Blenders; Charles Howard, Charles Julian, Allan Baillie, Jimmy Lang and of Custodian Master Blender, Colin Scott.

As you would expect for a premium bottling Chivas Regal Ultis is presented in premium packaging, the bottle mirrors the whisky within, with a slender shape and contemporary crest in gold champagne. In honour of the Chivas Regal Master Blenders and representing the five signature malts within, the bottle features a unique pen-clip closure which is etched with five rings, and a striking placement of the Roman numeral figure for five on the highly crafted base and within the textured crest label.

I haven't had the opportunity to taste the new Chivas Regal Ultis so I cant vouch for its quality and you would hope maturity given its price tag but I will update you if I do get a chance to taste it. Oddly the info I have received from Chivas did not have an official tasting note but a comment from Colin Scott, Chivas Regal Master Blender gives some indication of what we will find in the bottle, Colin said: "The crystalline freshness of Tormore shines through along with the contrasting, hint of spicy warmth present in Allt A’Bhainne, while the Longmorn single malt adds balance to the blend. The floral style of Braeval complements the fruity sweetness of Strathisla to create a complex and rich blended malt Scotch whisky."

Chivas Regal Ultis was bottled at 40% ABV and has an RRP of £157 / US $200, it launches worldwide from this month and will be available in travel retail and from specialist whisky retailers such as Master of Malt
