Introducing
the Bowmore Vintner's Trilogy which will
comprise of three wine cask influenced
age statement whiskies.
It seems the folks at Bowmore like
trilogy's and here is another one, the
Islay distillery has announced the
launch of the Bowmore Vintner's Trilogy
which will comprise of three age statement whiskies; Bowmore 18
Year Old Double Matured Manzanilla,
Bowmore 26 Year Old Wine Matured both of
which will launch this month and a
Bowmore 27 Year Old Port Cask Matured
bottling which will be released in 2018
to complete the Bowmore Vintner's
Trilogy.
The Bowmore 18 Year Old Double Matured Manzanilla
Sherry is the youngest expression in the Vintner's Trilogy,
it was matured for the
first 13 years in ex-bourbon barrels
before spending a further 5 years in ex-manzanilla
sherry barrels taking on a rich antique
gold colour. Bowmore describe it as "On the nose, notes of
treacle, salted caramel, ripe
blackcurrants, soft stone fruits,
vanilla fudge and spiced Seville oranges
sit alongside subtle hints of menthol
and chamomile which develops into bitter
oranges and a burst of peat smoke on the
palate to create this refined whisky".
The
Bowmore's 18 Year Old Double Matured
Manzanilla was bottled at a cask strength
of 52.5% ABV and will be available from
specialist whisky retailers at a RRP of $127
/ €110 / £105.
The Bowmore 26 Year Old Wine Matured
the second whisky in the trilogy,
spent its first
13 years in ex-bourbon barrels before a
second maturation of 13 years in wine barriques,
which Bowmore say developed "a burnt amber
colour. Redcurrant jam, camphor oil and
cherry pie intermingle with earthy smoke
on the nose, developing into spiced oak,
tropical fruits such as papaya and mango
and a honeyed sweetness with the
addition of water. A fullbodied whisky,
on the palate the flavours develop into
oak spiced smoke and rich dark chocolate
with a long finish and a hint of salt
typical of Bowmore".
The Bowmore's 26 Year
Old Wine Matured was bottled at a cask
strength of 48.7% ABV and will be
available from specialist whisky
retailers at a RRP of $540 / €420 / £400.
The Bowmore 27 Year Old Port Cask Matured
will be the final and oldest whisky in the trilogy,
it is set to be released in 2018. Final details of
the Bowmore 27 Year Old Port Cask
Matured whisky will be revealed next
year but here's hoping it matches the
quality and is perhaps from the same
batch as the outstanding
Bowmore 23 Year Old 1989 Port Cask
Matured whisky launched back in 2013.

Turner, Bowmore distillery manager,
commented on the new whiskies, saying: "The Vintner's Trilogy is a
collection of three liquid gold whiskies
which have been meticulously matured
over time in our No.1 Vaults. The
unique, sea-buffeted atmosphere inside
the oldest scotch maturation warehouse
in the world has created three perfectly
balanced whiskies full of flavour, with
each whisky offering an individual taste
journey through their time maturing in manzanilla
sherry, wine, bourbon and Islay malt
casks."
The Bowmore Vintner's Trilogy, Bowmore
18 Year Old Double Matured Manzanilla
and Bowmore 26 Year Old Wine Matured will be
available from this month and the
Bowmore 27 Year Old Port Cask Matured
with be available in 2018 from specialist Whisky retailers such as
Master of Malt
