Whisky Focus - Bowmore Celebrates Most Successful Feis Ile Yet

Bowmore single malt whisky celebrates its most successful Feis Ile to date.

This May, Feis Ile, the Islay Festival of Malt and Music, proved to be the most successful festival to date for Bowmore, the first Islay Single Malt whisky. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the festival was a sell-out for Bowmore with queues of the most dedicated Single Malt enthusiasts gathering outside the Distillery from 10pm to be one of the first to purchase the very special limited editions, bottled exclusively for the event: the Bowmore 1983 and Bowmore Laimrig 15 Year Old.

With just 100 bottles released, the Bowmore 1983 sold out the moment they opened the doors of the Bowmore distillery centre. Meanwhile, the 500 bottles of natural cask-strength, non chill-filtered Bowmore ‘Laimrig’ 15 Year Old had flown off the shelves by the end of the festival. In addition, all five Bowmore whisky Masterclasses were at full capacity.

Feis Ile Bowmore Whisky Masterclasses

Wednesday 25th May saw the Open Day at Bowmore Distillery teeming with visitors, where five different, sold-out Masterclsses were held to suit all tastes and palates. From the introductory Discover Bowmore’s Inner Core Masterclass, to Gasda Blsda – Whisky and Food Masterclass, and Malt and Maturation Masterclass, guests were able to gain a deeper understanding of the first Islay Single Malt from experts. The ‘Ultimate’ Masterclass, priced at £125, also sold out instantly, where guests could experience Bowmore like never before with an evening tasting session in the legendary No.1 Vaults maturation warehouses below sea-level, sampling some VERY rare and special Bowmore spirit followed by a local seafood dinner.

Events throughout the open day included cooperage demonstrations, traditional classic cocktail demonstrations, the Bowmore dramming bar, and live music from Finn Sound, Islay Pipe Band and Còisir Òg Ghàidhlig Ìle.

Islay Ale

Bottled especially for Bowmore Distillery, Feis Ile 2011 also saw the introduction of Islay Ale made with Bowmore grist and matured in Bowmore bourbon casks.
