This April (25th & 26th) Bowmore, the
first Islay Single Malt whisky, will
host an immersive and theatrical event
‘Magic Happens on the Darkest Nights’.
The event will take place in a
traditional Dickensian town house near
Liverpool Street, London, where the
story and characteristics of Bowmore 15
Years Old ‘Darkest’ will be brought to
life.

The Darkest Nights experience will take
guests on a sensory-filled journey of
exploration that conjures mystery, myth
and legend. The event partners with
Master Chocolatier, Paul Young from Paul
A Young Fine Chocolates, stargazing
experts from the Kielder Forest Star
Camp Observatory, pop-up culinary
experts ‘Hidden Dining’, and Gideon
Reeling, purveyor of bespoke theatrical
interactive experiences, who will be
creating the narrative and adding an
extra wisp of magic.
Darkness conjures many contrasting
emotions, images and sensations; this
extraordinary venue will be dimly lit by
candles and each guest will be given a
blindfold to wear through certain
chapters of the event. Darkness will
heighten guests’ sensory awareness,
focusing people on what they are
experiencing and the taste of Bowmore 15
Years Old ‘Darkest’. Distinctive burnt
sienna in colour, Bowmore 15 Years Old
‘Darkest’ is the result of a life spent
maturing in American bourbon casks
followed by Oloroso sherry oak casks.
The whisky possesses warmth and depth in
abundance, with the classic Bowmore
smokiness, dark chocolate and raisin
aromas.
Guests will be transported to the
magical island of Islay, located off the
West coast of Scotland, the home of
Bowmore. The ancient elements of Earth,
Fire, Air and Water have carved this
uncompromising island and created a land
full of myth and mystery that will be
brought to life in this multi-roomed
event.
The host and other Islay locals will
lead the way through several enchanting
rooms, each telling the story of Bowmore
15 Years Old ‘Darkest’, Islay and the
inherent bond that intertwines the two.
With myths and legends, dark rich
velvety nights, calm starry skies, the
tempestuous weather, peat and smoke, the
evening will embody all the elements
that make the ‘Darkest’ such a unique
spirit.
Amongst other characters, guests can
expect to encounter renowned Master
Chocolatier Paul Young for some
chocolate indulgence. Famed for his
exquisite chocolates and ingenious
flavour combinations, Paul is one of the
UK's foremost chocolatiers, patissiers,
and a talented and passionate Chef who
brings a flamboyance and excitement to
the burgeoning British chocolate scene.
He will be creating a rich, thick and
luxurious hot chocolate with Bowmore 15
Years Old ‘Darkest’ which complements
the gentle smokiness, warmth, dark
chocolate and raisin flavours.
Gary Fildes, director of the Kielder
Forest Star Camp Observatory, will
conduct an ‘Introduction to Stargazing’
workshop using a unique 3D projection
display which will show guests the calm
and clarity of the star-filled night sky
that hangs above the Bowmore Distillery
and talk them through the mystical
constellations.
Whilst being led around the house,
guests will collect keys that hold the
secret to Bowmore and unlock the final
room, the legendary Number 1 Vaults –
the dark and ancient warehouses beneath
sea level where the whiskies are laid to
rest. Here, guests will enjoy delicious
whisky-paired canapés such as Carpaccio
of Scottish Venison with Mustard and
Capers and Smoked Salmon and Sourdough
Crispbreads created by Hidden Dining
Ltd, the brains behind two of the most
respected dining experiences in London,
most notably Shacklewell Nights and
Green Onions. There will also be an
indepth whisky tasting with an expert
from the Distillery accompanied by sea
shanties and tales from the evening.
