GlenDronach,
BenRiach and Glenglassaugh single malts
continue to impress.
The BenRiach Distillery Company has announced that they
have scooped 10
medals, including two Gold and four
Silver Outstanding, across its three
brands at this year’s International Wine
and Spirits Competition.
When you look at the list of whiskies
below which picked up the awards I am
sure those of you who have tasted them
will agree that they are very well
deserved. There are a couple of premium
aged whiskies amongst them which will be
out of reach to many budgets but happily
most of them are within reach of most of
our pockets such as the outstanding
GlenDronach 12 and BenRiach 12 Year Old
Sherry Wood Matured which I am sure many
of you are familiar with.
A couple of more recent releases which
impressed the IWSC judges
which you may not have tasted yet and
wont put much of a dent in your pocket
are the BenRiach 10 Year Old which is a
classic Speyside combination of
ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and the
GlenDronach 8 Years Old, known as The
Hielan, I have yet to try The Heilan
myself but GlenDronach describe it as deliciously rich,
sweet, creamy with a classic sherry
signature.
And rounding off an excellent
performance at the Awards, the
Edinburgh-based company was again
shortlisted for the 2015 UK Spirits
Producer award.
Founded in 1969, the International Wine
and Spirit Competition is one of the
most prestigious in the world. It
currently receives entries from over 90
countries, giving it global reach. It
was set up to seek out, reward and
promote the world’s best wines, spirits
and liqueurs. Now in its forty-sixth
year, the IWSC’s pursuit of excellence
underpins every aspect of the
competition today.
Judging for the competition is unique in
that it has two stages; first, the
products are tasted blind by expert
panels, selected from over 300 fully
experienced and qualified industry
judges. Then, products which receive the
top medals are subject to technical
analysis before results are released;
this crucial stage ensures winners
receive complete validation.
