Review of the
BenRiach Cask Strength Batch 2.
 Following
on from the first release of the
BenRiach Cask Strength this time last
year the Speyside distillery has
released BenRiach Cask Strength Batch 2.
BenRiach Cask
Strength Batch 2
has been created using just a
small selection of casks which were
distilled in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and
were hand-picked by BenRiach distillery
Master Blender Rachel Barrie to create
this second batch.
Rachel selected a
combination of three types of casks,
bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry casks
and virgin oak hogsheads which BenRiach
tell me has produced a richer and
smoother taste profile than its
predecessor, the BenRiach Cask Strength
Batch 1.
Non chill-filtered and natural colour
the BenRiach Cask Strength Batch 2 has
been bottled at
60.6.%
ABV, it is a limited release and will be available from specialist
online whisky shops such as
The Whisky Exchange
and
Master of Malt while stocks last.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Enticing sweet coconut and vanilla
tablet, a lovely touch of fruit - orange
and red apple, some timid oak spice and
a little grassiness hiding in the
background.
Taste:
Juicy sweet barley, coconut coated sugar
almond closely followed by delicious
vibrant oak spice, honey and vanilla,
slightly candied lemon, cinnamon and
ginger also join the party.
Finish:
A lovely long finish with sweet barley
sugar, vanilla, just a hint of red
liquorice, a little oak spice.
Comment:
Outstanding, I loved it, delicious from
nose to finish, BenRiach at its purest,
a truly classic expression from the
Speyside distillery.
