Review of the BenRiach
limited edition 22 year old
Moscatel Wood Finish.
The
BenRiach distillery are continuing their
innovative limited edition whisky
releases with the release of a new
BenRiach 22 Year Old Moscatel Wood
Finish single malt.
The 22 year old was originally matured
in the traditional way, in American
ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky was then
finished in Moscatel wine casks, sourced
from Portugal and Spain. Moscatel wine
is typically a rich sweet dessert wine
full of fresh, grapey and floral
flavours. During this finishing period
of maturation the whisky interacts with
the wood and derives a number of
additional flavours and aromas specific
to the Moscatel wine cask.
BenRiach Sales Director Alistair Walker
commented on the new whisky saying,
"Moscatel is a sweet fortified wine,
hailing from Portugal and Spain, which
adds a buttery-soft, spicy and fruity
dimension to the whisky. The result is a
superlative malt in the classic BenRiach
style. It is lusciously rich, velvety
and full-flavoured, delivering superb
dried fruit and honeyed sweetness, like
a good apple crumble."
The BenRiach 22 year old Moscatel Finish
was bottled at 46% ABV, it is naturally
coloured and non chill-filtered, it will
be available from specialist online
whisky retailers such as
Master of Malt
