After months of planning, filming and editing, The Balvenie are delighted to announce that The Balvenie Whisky Academy is staging its online premiere.

The series of 35 films offers hours of whisky pleasure for both new and old enthusiasts alike. All you have to do to start enjoying these films today is join Warehouse24, The Balvenie online community of malt whisky lovers. It’s a really simple process and won’t take more than a few minutes and The Balvenie are currently giving new members of their online community a Free Whisky Tasting Notebook.

About The Balvenie Whisky Academy


The Balvenie Whisky Academy is split into four modules, containing a total of 35 short films which offer expert insights and commentary on the world of single malt whiskies. So, whether you are at the start of your whisky journey, or is a relative expert, there is something for everyone.

The full library of the 35 Whisky Academy videos are now on The Balvenie website, and are available exclusively to Warehouse 24 Members.

Overview of The Balvenie Academy Whisky Modules

Module 1 – The History of Scotch Malt Whisky

This module begins with the origins of distillation followed by the development of Scotch Malt Whisky through to the modern day. Experts featured in this module are renowned whisky writer Charles MacLean and Sukhinder Singh of The Whisky Exchange.

This sample film from module 1.8 " The Emergence Of Single Malts" features whisky writer and historian Charles Maclean.

Module 2 – Production of Scotch Malt Whisky

From barley to bottle, take an in-depth look at how Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made, with expert producers from the whisky industry and The Balvenie Distillery.

Experts featured in this module are Richard Lake from Crisp Maltings Group, Marie Stanton, Stuart Watts and David Stewart from The Balvenie, Ian Grant from Glenfiddich and Leslie Gracie from William Grant & Sons.

This sample film from module 2.8 "Maturation" features David Stewart from The Balvenie who focuses on the type and size of barrels.

Module 3 – Whisky Nitty Gritty

In this module, Balvenie answer some of the most commonly asked whisky questions. Includes a fascinating interrogation of whisky bottle labels.

Experts featured in this module include Eddie Ludlow of The Whisky Lounge, writer Gavin D Smith, The Balvenie Global Ambassador, Sam Simmons and Sukhinder Singh of The Whisky Exchange.

Module 4 – Nosing and Tasting

A module about aroma and flavour, the science behind our ability to detect subtle variations, and ways to enjoy and evaluate whiskies using our keen senses.

Experts featured in this module include Leslie Gracie, Eddie Ludlow, David Mair, David Stewart and Sam Simmons
