Review of the Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 3.
The
Balvenie fans amongst you will be pleased to hear that the Speyside distillery
has unveiled the Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 3 which will start appearing on shelves here in the UK and worldwide from the 1st July.
The popular annual release has been created by The Balvenie's long serving Malt Master David Stewart who was recently awarded an MBE for his services to the Scotch whisky industry. Once again David got the opportunity to showcase his knowledge and talent by hand selecting rare casks of The Balvenie and bringing them together in Tun 1509 located in the famous Balvenie Warehouse 24.
This time David selected 31 casks from the distillery’s aged stocks. He used 12 sherry butts distilled between 1989 and 1992, 11 American oak hogsheads distilled in 1989 and eight refill American Oak butts distilled in 1992 and 1993.
Although the Balvenie has told me the age range of the 31 casks which has gone into Tun 1509 Batch 3 this information is not on the label but well done to the Balvenie for putting the info out there. You will only find the cask numbers and the tasting notes for each cask type on the label.
The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 3 was bottled in May 2016 at a strength of 52.2% ABV, it is non chill filtered and has a RRP of £260. It is a limited release of 8,850 bottles worldwide of which 835 will be available in the UK these specialist
