The Balvenie
unveil DCS Compendium Chapter 3 "Secrets of the Stock Model".
The Balvenie has unveiled the third
annual instalment in its premium DCS
Compendium series of whiskies, The
Balvenie DCS Compendium Chapter 3
"Secrets of the Stock Model".
Just like the first two chapters in the
series the third chapter is a release of
five expressions of The Balvenie which
follow a theme, with this years theme
being "Secrets of the Stock Model which
highlights how The Balvenie’s Malt
Master, David C. Stewart MBE, uses his
vast experience, knowledge and skill to
control an ever-changing set of
variables that impact on the maturation
of ageing whisky stocks.
The stand out expression in this years
release is The Balvenie 1961 55 year
old, which is the oldest Balvenie ever
released. This rare Balvenie 55 year old
holds special significance to The
Balvenie Malt Master, David C. Stewart
MBE, who the "DCS" series is named
after, as it is being released during
David's 55th year with the company.
The Balvenie 1961 55 year old was
distilled on 14th June 1961 and matured
exclusively in European oak Oloroso
sherry hogshead and specially bottled at
41.7% ABV on 12th June 2017, just two
days before it turned 56, in order to
honour David’s length of service.
As well as being part of The Balvenie
DCS Compendium Chapter 3, of which 50
sets are available worldwide, the
Balvenie 1961 is also offered in the UK
and Taiwan as individual bottlings. The
bottles are presented in a beautiful
cherry wood and brass frame, handmade by
Scottish craftsman Sam Chinnery.
Highlighting the whisky’s extreme
rarity, bottlings will be limited to
just 15 worldwide, at a RRP of £35,000.
The five Balvenie DCS Compendium Chapter
3 whiskies range in age from 13 to 55
years and were taken from different cask
types, each barrel imparting its own distinct
flavour profile to the final expression.
