Auchentoshan
1999 Bordeaux Cask Matured released to
celebrate Bastille Day.
This Bastille Day (14th July),
Auchentoshan, the only triple distilled
Single Malt, has launched a very special
limited edition in the 1999 Bordeaux
Cask Matured – a cask strength, non
chill-filtered dram for the finest of
festivities.
Matured exclusively in French oak, the
open grain of which helps develop a full
oaky character, the whisky has a
pleasantly bitter sharpness that
perfectly matches the sweet Auchentoshan
character. Autumn sunset to the eye, the
aroma is citric sharp balanced by
lingering creamy sweetness. On the
tongue there’s Auchentoshan’s signature
vanilla notes, layered fruit and wood
spices – then a long, lingering finish.
Jeremy Stephens, Auchentoshan’s Senior
Blender, commented on the limited
edition: "Different wood finishes are
becoming increasingly popular, but it’s
pretty rare to find a whisky which has
been 100% matured in wine so this is
something very special."
As a tip, Jeremy advises that the new
expression, aimed at whisky drinkers
looking to extend their range of core
whiskies, should best be enjoyed at
strength or with only a little water to
maintain the perfect balance. It can
also be enjoyed with another Bordeaux
speciality, canelé, a delicious small
pastry with a soft and tender custard
centre and a dark caramelised crust.
Often regarded as the worlds wine
capital, the Bordeaux region produces
some of the finest, deepest red wines.
The wine’s character is reflected in the
packaging for this new limited edition,
with both the label and carton
reflecting the renowned velvety burgundy
tones.
The Auchentoshan 1999 Bordeaus Cask is
11 years old and was bottled at cask
strength 58% ABV, non chill-filtered and
has an RRP of £46.99 |
