Work begins
on the £15 million Ardross distillery
which is scheduled to go into production
summer 2018.
Work is now
underway on the new Ardross distillery
in the Averon Valley near Inverness.
Planning permission for the new £15
million distillery was given the go
ahead by The Highland Council in
February this year and with construction
now underway it estimated that the
Ardross distillery will go into
production by summer 2018.
The construction work, which has just
begun, will transform the disused 19th
century farmhouse and its associated
steading's at the 50 acre site into a
Scotch whisky distillery. Morrison
Construction, who has been contracted to
carry out the work on the site will be
using a inventive approach to the
construction of the distillery, which
will see stone and slate from ruined
structures salvaged for re-use in new
walls and roofs while more extensive
work to the main steading will see the
entire rear wall brought down and
rebuilt to provide the requisite floor
space for a two-storey still house, tun
room, mash house and milling area.
 Inventive re-use extends to an old dairy
building which will be repurposed as a
laboratory and a three-storey house
which will be converted to a a vaulted
cask storage area and marketing suite,
the boiler house will also be located at
the side of this building. Large
courtyards will also be formed, framed
by new offices and staff accommodation
to each side of the main steading.
Two large copper pot stills along with
the other process equipment are
scheduled to be delivered to the
distillery early 2018. Ardross will also
house a customised gin distillery which
if construction and start up goes to
schedule will be launching its first
product onto the market in late 2018.
