New 'Virgin
Oak' release unveils a new bold side to
Wire Works Whisky from the White Peak
Distillery in Derbyshire.
White Peak distillery in Derbyshire
England has introduced an exciting new
dimension to its Wire Works Whisky
collection this season with the launch
of their Virgin Oak Cask whisky.
Wire Works Virgin Oak, a limited release
of 2,769 bottles, represents a
significant step towards a permanent
addition to the distillery's offerings,
following the successful release of
Caduro in March of this year. This
whisky release marks the second instance
where White Peak has allowed its spirits
to mature in Virgin Oak casks, building
upon the foundation of a limited release
in 2022.
Bottled at what should be a robust and
flavoursome 50.5% ABV, 100%
natural colour and non-chill filtered,
the Virgin Oak whisky is said to still
maintain the distinctive Wire Works
house style. Crafted using lightly
peated malted barley, live brewer's
yeast, and an extended six-day
fermentation process, it infuses the
spirit with deep fruit notes. The whisky
is a masterful blend of lightly peated
single malt that initially matures in
high-quality, first-fill ex-bourbon
barrels, before being finished for
several months at a lower ABV in virgin
American oak barrels, each with a
specific toast and char level. The
prominent oak-centric flavours derived
from these casks contribute to an
interplay of sweetness and spice,
showcasing the rich fruit notes and
refined smokiness that define the core
essence of White Peak's house spirit.
Claire Vaughan, founder of White Peak
Distillery said: "In our latest release,
we're giving whisky enthusiasts the
opportunity to savour the unique
flavours of our lightly-peated spirit
and explore the journey our whisky has
taken in new wood. Matured in Virgin Oak
casks from the renowned Kelvin
Cooperage, celebrated for exceptional
quality, this is a development of the
limited edition 2022 release. The
selection of char levels in this vatting
introduces a delightful range of
flavours, from lighter toasted nuts,
vanilla, and sweetness to the richer
notes of caramel and toffee. This whisky
is a perfect dram for the fireside."
White Peak Distillery was established
seven years ago by the husband and wife
team of Max and Claire Vaughan, who hail
from Derbyshire. Their journey has been
one of continuous growth and success.
Last year the distillery achieved
notable acclaim, securing a series of
awards, these accolades extended beyond
their Wire Works whisky, encompassing
recognition for their Distillery visitor
experiences and the highly-praised,
eco-conscious packaging of Wire Works
Whisky.
Wire Works Virgin Oak has a RRP of £67
and will be available from 20th October
onwards from specialist online whisky
shops such as
