Doddie Weir
has visited the Glenkinchie distillery
and selected a 19 Year Old single sherry
cask to be bottled for his 'My Name’5
Doddie Foundation' which raises money to
support research into finding a cure for
Motor Neuron Disease.

You may recall a few
weeks ago I told you that Diageo were to
donate a cask of Glenkinchie single malt
to the "My Name’5 Doddie Foundation"
which raises money to support research
into finding a cure for Motor Neuron
Disease. Well on Friday 7th just passed,
rugby legend and inspirational Motor
Neuron Disease campaigner Doddie Weir
visited Glenkinchie Distillery in East
Lothian to handpick the single cask of
Scotch whisky which will be bottled to
raise funds for his My Name’5 Doddie
Foundation.
On his visit to the Glenkinchie
distillery on Friday Doddie was joined
by Distillery Manager Ramsay Borthwick,
Diageo Whisky Specialist Louise Martin
and Apprentice Whisky Specialist Eve
Murphy at the Glenkinchie Warehouse
where they helped him select a single
sherry cask of 19 year old Glenkinchie
single malt which will now be bottled
for the charity.
Doddie Weir said: "As a big whisky fan,
it’s been great to join the team at
Glenkinchie to select a special cask for
my foundation. The liquid we’ve chosen
comes from a sherry cask which has been
aged for 19 years - it’s gorgeous,
smooth and silky. It really is a fine
dram and we are delighted to have the
support of Diageo and Glenkinchie."
Glenkinchie Distillery in East Lothian
is the closest Diageo distillery to
Doddie’s Borders homeland. The
distillery is also the Lowland Home of
Johnnie Walker with a new
state-of-the-art visitor experience due
to open later this year.
I will update you when I get further
info about when and where and for how
much the limited edition Glenkinchie 19
Year Old single sherry cask bottling
will be available for. I am sure it will
be an interesting one as other than the
standard Glenkinchie 12 Year Old or
Distillers Edition we have seen very few
bottling's from the distillery in recent
years other than the odd Diageo Special
Release bottling and hopefully the fact
that it is for a very good cause it will
catch the interest of whisky enthusiasts
and collectors.
If you want to check out the currently
available Glenkinchie whisky range you
will find it available from
specialist online whisky retailers such
as
The Whisky Exchange,
The Whisky Shop and
Master of
Malt
