Glenglassaugh whisky breaks auction
record in aid of The Distillers'
Charity.

Glenglassaugh Coalescence of the Coast
55 Year Old, the oldest Glenglassaugh
whisky ever released by the Highland
distillery, which was meticulously
curated by Master Blender Rachel Barrie,
recently achieved a remarkable feat by
fetching a record-breaking £37,500 for a
Glenglassaugh whisky in the prestigious
Distillers One of One Auction in aid of
charity. This remarkable achievement
marks the highest price ever attained
for a bottle of Glenglassaugh in an
auction.
This extraordinary expression was
exclusively crafted for the auction,
with the noble cause of raising
essential funds to support
underprivileged youth in Scotland. It is
the result of blending three distinct
casks of Glenglassaugh, each filled in
the years 1963, 1965, and 1967. The
fusion of these exceptionally rare casks
beautifully encapsulates the
unparalleled character of Glenglassaugh
after undergoing decades of maturation
along the coastal shores.
Encased within a meticulously crafted
crystal decanter specially designed for
this occasion, the precious liquid finds
its home in a bespoke wooden box that
draws inspiration from Glenglassaugh's
coastal surroundings. The design of the
box mirrors the undulating patterns of
Sandend Bay's shore and features natural
serpentine marble sourced from Portsoy,
the distillery's neighbouring harbour
town. In addition to this extraordinary
bottle, the fortunate buyer will also
receive three miniature samples, each
originating from one of the three casks
used in the blending process.
Rachel Barrie, Master Blender at
Glenglassaugh Distillery, said: "The
elixir within this bespoke bottle of
Glenglassaugh is a precise composition
which captures Glenglassaugh at its
quintessential peak, with seductive
cassis, sublime mandarin peel and soft
aromatic sherry in a caress of silken
oak. One sip awakens the senses with
mesmerising waves of luscious black
cherry, ripe mango and tropical flora
carried on an endless ocean breeze. To
taste Glenglassaugh Single Malt is to
experience the evocative coastal
influence of Sandend Bay.
"Now is such an exciting time for
Glenglassaugh. We’re still riding the
wave of the new portfolio launch and we
have so much to look forward to with
some exquisite new releases of old and
rare whisky which date back to the 60s
and 70s still to come. Watch this
space."
The Distillers' Charity, in
collaboration with Sotheby's, hosted its
second biennial One of One Auction at
the magnificent Hopetoun House near
Edinburgh yesterday, Thursday, October
5th. This remarkable event achieved an
impressive total of £2.25 million
(approximately $2.7 million), surpassing
the initial pre-sale estimate by
twofold. The auction garnered hammer
proceeds of £1.8 million, featuring 39
unique lots of whiskies and exclusive
experiences generously contributed by
distilleries from all corners of
Scotland.
The primary beneficiary of this
exceptional fundraising effort is The
Distillers' Charity's Youth Action Fund,
a noble initiative dedicated to
positively transforming the lives of
young individuals in Scotland.
