Adding Water To Your Whisky - Yes No or Sometimes

I never add so much as a drop of water. I would agree with those who say it dilutes and weakens the flavours of the whisky. That is only my opinion i believe there is no right or wrong way to drink whisky just do it the way you best enjoy it.

I sometimes add just a little water, i feel some whiskies do need a little water to bring out their hidden flavors. But i also agree some whiskies can be spoilt by adding water. For me sherried malts such as the Macallan dont need any water.

As whats been said by others above i never add a drop of water as it i think it dilutes the tase and lessens my enjoyment of the whisky.

I sometimes add a drop of water - never enough to dilute the taste and not to all whiskies (or at least, if I have added water to a whisky once that doesn't mean I will again)... basically I've read different opinions on this and, out of curiosity more than anything, I add the drop of water to see if it does change the taste (but of course you have to taste it without water first - and thats the point where I decide if its worth a drop or not!)

I would always add a drop of water to most Cask Strength whisky but with say a sherried cask strength I would always try it first before diluting, to make sure I'm not watering something down I shouldnt have. More often than not iwould drink sherried cask strength whiskies as they come out the bottle.

I do not add anything to my whisky. I have read a couple books, and the authors try to convince you it will bring out all these hidden flavours but i have tried adding water and to me it does nothing but dilute the flavour and reduce my enjoyment even when adding just a drop. Having said all that i have yet to venture into the world of cask strength whiskies so perhaps i wiould appreciate a drop of water in a cask strength whisky.

I never add any water at all, i think it can dilute out more flavour than what it reveals.

I find i prefer most malts without any water added, but i do always add a drop of water at least once to any new malt i try for the first time just to see if it reveals any hidden flavours which are not apparent without the water.
