Ready to spend but do not want to waste.
Auchtenhosen 3W, Glendronach, and Dalmore are personal favorites but they lose value as prices go from two to three figures. Recent spends in this higher range include Aultmore 18 and some Macallan version but they were not worth the extra dought
Thanks for suggestions! |

Have you tried Glenallachie they produce some good sherried whiskies under the management of Master Distiller and Blender Billy Walker who brought Glendronach back to life. |

Probably a bit over budget, but Glengoyne 21 is very delicious indeed. On the cheaper end, I've always be drawn towards Aberlour's Abunadh, but bear in mind that's a young cask strength sherry bomb that might not be for everyone. Please pop back and let us know your findings... |

A bit premature to say that Billy Walker has "produced" some good sherried Glenallachie. He has merely bottled inherited stock from Chivas Brothers and Campbell Distillers before that.
What you can give him credit for is bringing those previously undervalued casks to market. Going forward I'm sure we can expect to see more interesting bottlings from Glenallachie. |

Wouldn’t he have selected and vatted the whiskies together to create the range that Glenallchie now offers, there is a lot of planning, sampling and analysis of the maturing stock involved in what the distillery offers now and I would say that is a lot to do with Billy Walker. I would agree with jcarrick Billiy Walker is behind the good selection of whiskies available from Glenallachie today. |

Thanks for the suggestions. Glengoyne 21 is decidedly out of that budget at $300. For that much I'm getting Glenmo Signet or Macallan Rare Cask. Those are the just-won-the fantasy-league-and-have-wife-unsupervised-cash-to-burn splurges.
GlenAlachie 15 ($110) and 18 ($190) are in that budget. Had one of their bottles years ago and was not impressed. My most trusted advisor (Scotchnoob.com) liked the 12 in 2021. So will try with the new blending expert. Is the 18 much better than the 15?
BTW cask-strength is too hot for my palate. Any other ideas? |
