You may find this of interest https://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/how-to-store.htm
Basically you should store your whisky bottles upright, out of the sunlight and in a cool and dry place You can maintain the quality and flavour of the whisky by storing it properly but you cannot enhance the flavour, whisky stops being enhanced when it is removed from the barrel it matured in and is put in the bottle. |

Storing single malt whisky properly is essential to maintain its quality and enhance its flavor over time. Here are some of the best conditions for storing single malt whisky:
Temperature: Whisky should be stored at a consistent temperature. Ideally, the storage area should be cool and avoid extreme temperature fluctuations. A range of 55-65°F (13-18°C) is generally recommended, as extreme heat or cold can cause the liquid to expand and contract, potentially affecting the seal and leading to leaks.
Light: Whisky is sensitive to light, especially ultraviolet (UV) light. Exposure to direct sunlight or even prolonged artificial light can cause the whisky to degrade and affect its flavor. Store your bottles in a dark place, away from direct sunlight.
Humidity: Whisky should be stored in an environment with moderate humidity. A humidity level of 60-75% can help prevent the corks from drying out and maintain the seal. If the cork dries out, air can enter the bottle, potentially causing oxidation and flavor changes.
Upright Position: Storing whisky bottles upright is generally recommended. This prevents the cork from drying out, maintains the seal, and minimizes the risk of leakage. However, if the bottle has a screw cap or synthetic cork, it's less critical.
Stable Environment: Avoid storing whisky in areas with strong odors or temperature fluctuations. The surrounding environment can influence the flavor of the whisky, so it's best to keep it in a stable and odor-free location.
Sealed Bottles: Ensure that the bottles are tightly sealed to prevent air from entering. Oxygen can interact with the whisky over time and potentially alter its flavor profile. Re-cork any bottles that may have a damaged or deteriorating cork. |

Enhance it's flavour over time? Never heard that before. Correct storage would preserve the quality and flavour, but enhance? I don't think so.
I thought perhaps this was a reference to casks but on reading the whole article it appears that it is bottles we are talking about. |
