Hello, I don't know if its a right place to ask this
I'm interested in designing custom wooden whisky boxes for my business and I'm looking for some guidance on what to consider when creating a high-quality, visually appealing product. Can anyone share some insights on the key factors that should be taken into account when designing custom wooden whisky boxes?

Some specific questions I have are:

What are the most important considerations when it comes to size and shape?
What types of wood are best suited for whisky boxes and why?
Should I go for a natural or finished look, and what are the pros and cons of each option?
Are there any additional features, such as hinges, locks, or dividers, that I should consider including?
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!"

Hi Alan some of the more premium/expensive whiskies are often presented in more premium/expensive oak boxes, cherry wood. elm or even a combination of different woods such as The Balvenie 50 year old around 10 years ago https://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/balvenie50yearold.htm another example of a premium box is the Glenlivet 50 year old https://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/glenlivet50yearold1966.htm

Other examples are:

Some boxes are embellished with precious metal such as silver or gold. Tehe features of the box very much depends on how epensive the whisky is.

Not sure if that helps or if that is the end of the market you are thinking of. I would think a good way to proceed would be to create some examples for particular brands then approach them, dont forget the independent bottlers. A limited release may be just a few bottles to a few hundred bottles, it may well be worth considering how quickly you can produce the boxes in your design so you can share this info with the whisky companies. All the best and do let us know if we should expect to see any of your whisky box designs in whisky shops.
