About 5 years ago, Aldi had an amazing Christmas whisky which seemed to be from Mortlach, and was fantastic.
Since then there's been nothing that attractive, and I thought I'd give this year's £40 18yo Speyside a whirl in a spirit of optimism.
I wish I hadn't bothered: it's terrible.
Presumably a major producer cracked open an 18yo supply, only to discover it was dogshit.
So they cut their losses by selling it all to Aldi since, legally, it is indeed an 18yo Speyside. Even if it's terrible.
It tastes like a rough NAS. It tastes worse than the normal Aldi Speyside.
Alcoho-heat and no interesting flavours. Crap.
What's galling is that if I'd got this from Amazon, I could return it for a refund.
But I bought this 90 miles away - imagine trying to return this in the chaotic Hell of Aldi!
Tl;dr -Avoid. |

Ant, I bought a 18 speyside last xmas at Aldi so I take it they doing it again, if I remember right it was 40% and there lies the problem , it was massively coloured and u could taste it, so was it awful, no but it wasn't what I wanted. |
