Noticed glenfiddich has this out in Sainsburys, no age but 43%, so what you reckon?

I see that it is listing in Waitrose also, I would guess it will be rolling out everywhere soon.in my opinion the Glenfiddich Experimental Series expressions have all been good to date, so I would be happy to give this new Glenfiddich Orchard Experiment a try.

This is how they describe it:
Quote:
Glenfiddich Orchard (43% ABV) is a pioneering single malt Scotch whisky from Glenfiddich. It is the first in its history to be finished in Somerset Pomona Spirit casks, born out of craft, tradition, and desire for experimentation. This innovative single malt celebrates and elevates the Glenfiddich sweet and fruity signature style. The sublime depth of Scotch whisky is complemented by the delicate sweetness of Somerset apples.

This expression of the Glenfiddich Experimental series brings together two maverick families. Hand selected Glenfiddich whiskies are finished in casks, previously holding sweet Somerset Pomona, for approximately 4 months to create this incredible fruity and sweet whisky. Together, they create a Scottish whisky bathed in the sweet warmth of an English summer's day.

Discover the Glenfiddich Orchard flavour profile:

Nose: classic Glenfiddich notes of fresh pair and ripe orchard fruits, elevated and accentuated by a finishing period in Somerset Pomona Spirit Casks.
Taste: an initial burst of ripe orchard fruits on the palate softens and develops into sweet creamy toffee, caramelised apple, and woody spice
Finish: long lasting sweetness
I hadn't heard of Somerset Pomona and instantly assumed that it was a cider but just looked it up and it is Somerset cider brandy. It sounds interesting and I will look out for it on offer if the supermarkets are listing it.

I am sure it will be worth a go, sounds like a good summer dram if there is such a thing, as Whisky Chaser says we will probably see it on offer which seems to be the way they sell whisky in a supermarket now.

Good cider brandy is hard to come across (and expensive) given that most decent stuff is aged 15 years+ I have some bottles, interestingly, some are aged in various Sherry casks and oak. The Pomona is aged in small oak barrels, much smaller than whisky barrels so it will be interesting to see how much whisky was finished in them and for how long (and how many times the barrels were reused). I can see how they would match a speyside profile, in fact I’ve talked myself into buying a bottle!

Right I was given a miniature of this today so just trying it now, thanks to hayfever my nose is blocked so with the taste is apples,, normal glenfiddich note, toffee, and defo pepper , feels a touch of a sticky mouthfeel, not a bad mouthfeel I will say , I’m sure I’m getting a wiff of smoke but don’t quote me on that , more notes will be in this but heyfever not helping but am I liking it ? If I personally wanted a bottle of this I’d be looking at the price at £35 than the £42 but hey I’m liking it, be good to hear some more reviews so we can all see how good it is 👍 right I’m away to finish the last swallow.

Taste-wise this seems in the ball park of Deveron 12yo? Know a friend who loves this, so would this be a good buy for him? TIA.

I think at £32 it sits about right for me , I’m thinking of getting a bottle at this price , I wish the youtubers would get some more reviews going so we can see what it’s all about , looking back to last night I’m at the point of saying I enjoyed the miniature I had .
