All 3 are 40% abv
1980’s - 84/83/82
Nose
Smokey, mineral, wet stones, peat, dates, dark treacle.
After a few minutes a slight Bovril note.
Palate
Quite spicy at first and chewy with the faintest hint of peat mixed with stewed plum.
The mouthfeel is pretty good with a little icing sugar sweetness coming in.
Finish
The flavours dissipate too soon, but the warm, soothing feeling lingers as it goes down, the finish is a little short
2021 – 81/80/80
Nose
Some menthol on the nose but no smoke like the 1980's bottle.
Some stewed fruit, comes next and then some peat arrives.
Palate
While being spicy it is also watery, not much of an attack to be honest.
The fruit is there, a little mango, apricot and the like, more peat but not as spicy as the 1980's bottle.
Finish
A little syrupy, a little light, flavours fade too quickly but pleasant enough.
2018 Triple Cask 65/50/40
Nose
Smells sweet and medicinal , reminds me of the coating off a sugared almond.
Palate
No this is not good, too sweet but that is it, far to bland and devoid of any real flavour.
Finish
Spicy and sweet, not very good.
This is verging on being awful, the worst JW I have tasted , stay away from this one. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |
