Give this one time and you will be rewarded.
Nose
88
Quite expressive at first, you can smell the wood from the off, but that sounds bad, it is not in fact thankfully.
Sandalwood, varnish, treacle, pastry, something earthy, smoke, oil, hints of peat, pretty good.
Taste
89
Yes the wood is definitely there and holds the fruits at bay to start with but there is so much stewed plumb and rhubarb with brown sugar thrown in that it powers through and then some sweeter spice appears mixing with the sherry and the faint peat.
Balance is very good, this is one of those older whiskies that takes time to get the best from but if you do you will be rewarded
Finish
92
The nose is decent, the palate is nice but the finish is the best part, everything in sync, fades slowly, really good _________________ Pour me a glass please. |
