How do? I'm a long time member but it's been a long time since I posted here. Good to see some of the old forum members are still active!

I'm actually looking for a valuation for a friend who has a Tobermory 14 Year Old Port Pipe Finish / Distillery Exclusive. These fetch £100+ at auction but he has bottle number one, something you don't see that often so I'm not really sure of value. I think some collectors specialise in this kind of bottle, so presumably this might add considerably to the value?

In my experience, the bottle number makes next to no difference to value. The exception to that is when new releases are auctioned (sometimes for charity) and bottle #1 attracts the biggest bids/donations.

I would agree the bottle number would make little or no difference on most ocassions for bottles like this that may be seen as a drinker rather than a collector

Thanks for your views guys. Looking at the auction sites I can see some examples where there is a markup of 50%+ for bottle #1, e.g. single cask Aberlour or Glendronach. I agree though, it's usually charity auctions where you see huge prices for the first few bottles. The buyer bought from a specialist whisky shop and, in my view, they've marked it up at least 200%, probably more. Difficult conversation to have!
