Hi everyone

I'm looking for advice on buying a gift for a Speyside loving friend, who is a particular fan of Glenfarclas.

I could go and buy a Glenfarclas for the appropriate price and be done with it, however I was perhaps hoping to get something a bit different. My own tastes are firmly in the smoky, peaty, seaweedy Islay camp, so he generally dislikes anything which floats my boat.

I've hunted around various sites including the SMWS - which looks interesting, he wouldn't be interested in membership, but have drawn a bit of a blank. The purchase needs to be in the next month - so I may be unlucky with timing for auctions and in any case wouldn't have a great idea about what I should be looking for.

Any specific help or advice where to look would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Has he tried the Glendronach 18 and 21, personally i would take the 18 over the 21

Also Glenmoargie Signet makes a great gift and it is a delicious dram.

I'd recommend Glencadam 21 personally. Its a Highland rather than a speyside though.

I recently opened a bottle of Glen Moray 2005 Tokaji Finish which is very good and i would second the Glendronach 18, Glenmoargie Signet suggestions. Glencadam 21 is good if you can get hold of it and there are a few interesting single cask Glencadams over at Master of Malt which should be worth checking out.

How about a bottle of Redbreast 12 year old Cask Strength for something a bit different, it is an superb Irish pot still whiskey and you add a bottle of the Balvenie 12 year old Single Barrel First Fill and still be within your budget.

I've got 2 bottles of signet, 1 to keep , 1 to drink, not opened it yet

found it strange that with costs some were fetching near £200 on auction sites

when you can buy it online for £120

Congrats on the winning bid.

I had this dram at my 'local' and liked it enough to spend the same on the bottle. Your friend will not be disappointed, one of best sherried drams I have had in recent times and I have tried quite a few.

Thanks at deadz101 - I should find out soon enough - they seem to be pretty efficient about shipping so he should have it shortly
