Mmm.. I had some minis and to my untutored taste it seemed as though theere was a similar note running through all of them? I took is to be them using the same base malt or grain for the blends with others added for effect.
They were a gift so nice thought but I really think its probably mostly marketing. I will say this, if i had discovered an absolute gem I would have stocked up and would be telling you about it now.
I would be interested in knowing how they arrived at their particular recipe for each distillery. Must just be a punt at original character?
Did a bit more research and certainly Serge from whiskyfun seems to rate them quite well.
I did have a look at their website which tells of all sorts of extensive research into still shapes, distillery character etc.
One of the whiskyfun reviews mentions the bottle reviewed having an aged character or old style if you will, and bearing in mind how many old whiskies he has tried, got to give that some weight over my statements above.
