I see that Amazon offers its own brand - Tovess - whiskies. Apparently there are 12yo Highland, Speyside and Islay single malts, and an 8yo blended whisky. (There are also gin, rum and vodka in the range.)

Has anyone here tried the Highland or Speyside single malts? If so, what did you think of them? Are they worth £30/bottle?

Thanks.

I haven't tried them but interestingly I see that William Grants also owns a Tovess brand name https://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/sdvlookup/searchBrand.action?pageNumber=191 perhaps there is a connection and WG bottles Tovess range for Amazon. They do all seem to get decent reviews and they appear to go on offer for as low as £18. I will look out for them on offer.

Interesting. Thank you.

So if Grants are involved, maybe the Speyside will be one of theirs? Kininvie, perhaps, since that's less likely to be recognised than Glenfiddich or Balvenie?

As you say, the reviews don't look bad, and £30 isn't a bad price. It might be worth a pop. My expectation would be something somewhere between "drinkable" and "quite pleasant", but not anything special.

I just thought I'd see if anyone here had tried them yet and had anything to report.

These were all £19.99 pre Xmas, they also do Gin.

Highland, Speyside and Islay malts; nothing to shout home about but great dram for the price.

Wonder if these are similar to Aerstone bottlings by William Grant, that are decent.

Well, I bought a bottle of each of the Highland and Speyside Tovess single malts. For what it's worth, my verdict on both is that they're drinkable, but not much better than that. I wouldn't pour them down the drain, but I certainly won't be buying either again. There are better whiskies available for less than the £30/bottle that I paid for them.

Disappointing. For me, that is: you might disagree.

Not tried these yet.

The Islay NAS & Highland 12yo are on offer today at Amazon.

Ordered one of each, anyone else who's tried these?

Tried the Islay last night. Defo Bowmore. Pleasant but only a sub 20 quid bottle IMO.

Will try the Highland 12yo this week.
