I assume that this topic has been brought up before, but what is your opinion on this?

I personally prefer the Black, even though it's completely different.. but I think the malt % is slightly higher over Chivas.

Even though it isn't, it's a better tea in my cup.

I cut my teeth early on speyside so I should pick chivas but I’ve always thought the black was better, even thow I had a bottle 5 months back and thought it had changed a lot and not in a better way.

I do enjoy both but if I had to express a preference between the two I would take the JW Black Label

I choose the JW Black Label without hesitation, both soft and deep it's a real pleasure

JW each and every single day. That is, unless you have 80s bottlings of Chivas or older which are amazing.

I’m a bit biased after enjoying a lovely tasting session at Strathisla where I got to taste just about everything Chivas/Strath have to offer (and drunkenly part with a fair bit of cash!). I prefer the Chivas 12 to the Chivas 18 if I’m honest. JW black is also smooth and silky and dangerously drinkable, but if I had to choose one, it’d be CR12 every time.

I think Chivas Regal 12 is too tame these days lacking the bite of earlier decades, JW black is better for me.

i must admit its been a few years since i have drunk black label the bottle i am drinking now is tame doesnt have the any power nothing coming through rather tame as though they forgot to put any whisky from islay in it
its as though there trying to tame the beast and lose the character maybe trying to make it easy drinking

i dont think i will be buying another one soon

Duty free shop at the airport occasionally come up trumps. Picked up 2 x 1L bottles of Chivas 12 for just £36 in total. It might not be complex enough for some, but I’m very satisfied. Still love it for a smooth easy drinker.

Whilst there I tried the 25yr old Dewars (£145) with the hope that I’d be bowled over enough to buy a bottle. Unfortunately I wasn’t. Standing at a busy airport with a rucksack on my back might not be the best environment to explore its flavour, but I was hoping for more ‘wow’. Interested to hear if anyone rates the Dewars.
