Hi All

New to the forum so go easy please.

I have two bottles of Glenfiddich 15. One is a Solera Reserve and the other is a Solera Vat. When I look online for the difference it appears to give very similar descriptions. Both involving a vatting system in almost identical ways. Can anyone please tell me what is the difference?

The Glenfiddich 15 year old is aged for 15 years in European sherry and new oaks and then transferred to a Solera Vat, a system which is more commonly used in the maturation of sherry. The Glenfiddich 15 has been branded as ‘Solera Vat’ or ‘Solera Reserve’ in the past, both are the same whisky.

Thank you.

It was quite confusing as you can find details online for both types and they are very similar. Different labels too just too confuse matters even more.

Yeah. I have both of the Bottles. Ones in a box where the front opens, the other is in a tube. Tha labels are different colours and styles. The whiskys are, as far as I can tell, very similar, possibly the same. I can't figure out why tho lol.

Ok.. Merry Christmas All

Further to my post I got another bottle of Glenfiddich 15 Solera today and it's different again. I now have three different tubes and three different bottles and labels all saying different things. From, Solera Res, Solera Vat and Our Solera Reserve. Confused? Yep, I am. If I knew how to post a picture of them on here, I would.

Have they all tasted different? I think that's the only thing you should worry about tbh as the admittingly confusing Solera terminology changes could very well just be down to packaging changes with different verbage that ultimately means the same thing: Solera aging. Some distilleries love tweaking their packaging for some reason. Ardbeg are a good example of that.
