I think Aldi may well have not bothered this year. They seem to be all about the Gin - I can't say I'm surprised.

Well on my second glass now all I can say is wow if you love your Peaty/smokey whisky then this is fantastic for 35 pounds trouble is they already have the standard green tube Islay which is very nice I just think this has a bit more depth to it if that makes sense and I think you could tell it's a well aged whisky(16 year old) a great tipple in my opinion and you could do a lot worse than grab a bottle of this oh forgot to say it also has a great colour to it a great drink to sip on a winters night hope this helps.

Any guesses to distillery? Probably Caol Ila I'd imagine? Was there quite a few bottles around? Would mind doing a little detour tomorrow for this.

Just managed to snag two bottles of this. The distillery mentioned on the box is Clydesdale Laughing

My suspicion is Lagavulin, Coal Ila or Bowmore. All producing the right quantities to do something like this.Everyone else on Islay is in ridiculous demand otherwise it feels like.

I'm not a fan of Bowmore so I'm hoping it's not that.

I haven't got a hold of a bottle yet but it is always possible that it could be a peated Bunnahabhain

It's not impossible but Bunna does tend to come at 46% - of course the final ABV might be more down to Lidl than the distillery.

I recall a number of years ago that Tesco’s own label Islay malt was reputed to be a peated Bunna bottled at 40%, so I wouldn’t rule it out. It baffles me how they do manage to keep this secret.
