Scotland's most northerly mainland distillery which will be constructed at John o Groats will be named '8 Doors Distillery', it is offering whisky enthusiasts the chance to buy casks and purchase bottles from some of the first casks they will laydown.

Put out £420 for 3 bottles of whisky which you wont receive for between 5 and 7 years plus the time it will take to build the distillery and produce the whisky, crazy I may be wrong but I cant see whisky enthusiasts going for this, even at half that price it would be a big ask this many years in advance of getting your whisky.

I was thinking exactly what Nimo is saying and I will be keeping my few pence in my pocket on this one.

I wish all these distilleries luck. Its always nice to have something new to try.

Although I do wonder how many of these new distilleries are just jumping onto the bandwagon of the popularity of whisky just now?

I will say though, if at the end of the day these new kids on the block can produce some good solid whisky like Daftmill with natural colour, no filtering etc. then perhaps it will give some of the long established distilleries a much needed boot up the back side and stop their nonsense of adding colour and chill-filtering.

It will be interesting to see if this goes ahead if this is how they are funding the project.

I wonder why they have gone with the 8 Doors name when they are at such a familiar 'brand' / location of John o' Groats?

Good point John o' Groats Distillery would have been a better choice.
