Good morning all,
I am looking at getting a bottle of scotch whisky for a friend as a gift. He is not much of a whisky drinker so I am looking at something sweeter and easy drinking to start him off.
Any recommendations please?
Kind regards |

Easy drinker?
The bar I work in often recommends Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask which is almost always met with approval. Cardhu 12 can also be another nice easy introduction.
That said I had a chap in the other day who was new to whisky and he fell in love with Ledaig 18! Which certainly has a distinctive and strong flavour profile...
Good luck! _________________ Inverness Whisky

Glenmroangie 10 is worth a shout.
Edit
I tried this one last week and thought it was a verry easy sipper - Tamanulin Sherry cask edition 40%, I think it is a litre bottle in Tesco for £45. _________________ Pour me a glass please.

Glengoyne 10 or 12 are ideal in my opinion. Balvenie 12 Doublewood and 14 Caribbean Cask also. |

I've always considered the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban to be an excellent starter whisky as the Port finish makes it extremely rich and sweet for a whisky.
A Rum cask whisky can also hit that kinda mainstream-friendly sweet spot as well, especially if the person trying already likes rum, so Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask is a good shout as well.
Glenmorangie 10yr or Glenfiddich 12yr are about as appropriate as it gets if you want to buy someone a whisky that represents your typical Single Malt. |

The ones already mentioned are most appropriate but I would add the reasonably priced Aberfeldy 12 and for more of a bump up in money, Glencadam 15. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Dalwhinnie 15yr is another good starter, just apple and honey and pleasantness in a glass for beginners, but more experienced drinkers tend to think it's a bit boring! Still a great starter dram, and of course a 15yr age statement makes a bolder statement when in comes to "flash present" status! The Quinta Ruban is a 14yr BTW. |

I'd also recommend Glenmorangie 10 as a good starter whisky. Its £26 in Sainsbury's at the moment:
