Here's one for you. I just checked. The whisky of the year which is a Canadian product is not available here in Ontario, Canada at any of the 660 liquor stores in one of the largest Provinces in Canada with almost 15,000,000 people. It is also not available at the 430 total liquor stores in Quebec, the largest Province in Canada by population. It's never apparently been for sale here and probably never will be. Welcome to the wonderful world of whisky.

So the four top whiskies are unobtainable for most. |

 | That's a pity Murray, I wondered if you had perhaps tasted the Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye and what your opinion of it was. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

I cant find any trace of the Paul John Mithuna, you may be right William, it is yet to be released. Totally agree with the awards in the blended Scotch category for the Ballantines 17 and 30 and the Dewars 25 |

There is no point trying to second guess the mind of Jim Murray.
In the 2008 version (I believe) he rated ardbeg 10 97 points yet rated the 30 year OB Linlithgow something like 73 points, personally the 2008 Ardbeg 10 was just average and I thought the Linlithgow was excellent, I am not sure which of this 2 scores I find more insulting to be honest? _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

Speaking of Glen Grant, one bottle I'd highly recommend is the travel retail 12 year-old, which comes at 48% ABV with no chill-filtration. When I got it last year it was a pleasant surprise that harked back to the times when it was commonplace to find 1 litre bottles at very good prices in airports. |

Here's a good one for you. The Alberta Premium Cask Strength not only is not available in the largest provinces in Canada but it apparently is not even available in Alberta. This is not a run for it after the win was announced; it was never available to any extent even before that and probably not at all in most provinces of Canada.

Given the recent sexist allegations against whisky writer Jim Murray for the language he has used in his new Whisky Bible 2021 which somewhat has taken the limelight away from the 'World Whisky Of The Year', Alberta Premium Cask Strength Canadian Rye Whisky, named in the book I have ask Canadian based Scotch Malt Whisky Forum Member (Quaich1), occasional SMW guest writer and Companion of the Quaich, Murray Cohen, to review the whisky for us and give us his independent unbiased opinion of the Canadian dram
You can read Murrays review here:

Great review Murray, I wish I could get hold of a bottle.
The style Jim Murray writes in isn't new and it isn't sexist, I would agree with you William it is unnecessary , surely a talented journalist like him should have the writing skills to describe a whisky in a more acceptable way. I guess he doesn't have anyone proof reading his book and advising him that this sort of language should not be used. It doesn't really bother me but I can see how it may bother some. |

I am no Murray basher, but in the past I have strrongly disagreed with some of his reviews.
I also disagree with this comment in the report mind :-
"Over the past 18 years Jim Murray's Whisky Bible has firmly established itself as the most comprehensive, independent collection of whisky reviews available"
What about Michael Jackson's yearly whisky book, more concise, not prone to exaggeration and always independant, in my view by far a better refernce book for anyone looking for the unbiased reading.on what whisky tastes like.
Just my 2 cents as they say
For the record I am referring to the years when MJ was around and not the subsequent years when other people who used to run whisky magazine put their comments under his banner which I thought was wrong to do, so lets say I am referring to maybe the first 10 volumes or thereabouts. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

Sadly Michael Jackson is long gone so over the past 18 years I would agree that the Whisky Bible has been by far the most comprehensive collection of reviews and even when Michael Jackson was around I would still say that the Whisky Bible was a more comprehensive collection of reviews. Whether you relate more to one particular reviewers reviews than another is a personal choice. |
