|
|
Beginner here, recently bought a bottle of Tamnavulin Sherry Cask to try it when it was on offer at Tesco at £30 for 1 Litre. I do rather like it and would consider buying again at that price but wonder if I might be better to go a bit upmarket - could anybody recommend a good sherry cask single malt at under, say, £50-ish a bottle? |

You're in for a treat because you can get so many whiskies that are a class above the Tamnavulin for that money! Here's a few:
Glendronach 12
Tamdhu 12
Glenfarclas 15
Glenrothes Whisky Maker's Cut (This has gone under the radar a bit but it's quite good)
Aberlour Casg Annamh
Arran Bodega Sherry Cask (just a touch over £50 at MoM)
The last three are at a significantly higher strength (the Arran is at cask strength, the Glenrothes and Aberlour around 48%) if that sways your decision either way.
My recommendation? If you're new to sherry cask influence, go for the classics - Glendronach or Glenfarclas. |

Id agree with Alexppp, also I like Tullibardine 500, Tomatin 12.
Glendronach 18 is brilliant, way outside budget but try a dram, double measure, you'll love it.
Get it gifted to you for a birthday or Christmas present, if too expensive for one person, get them to pull together with other family members to buy it. Open it and enjoy |

Thank you for all your replies and suggestions. I have begun shopping around and note that The Whisky Shop online has Arran Bodega Sherry Cask at £43.99 which has to be good value for any decent cask strength whisky. I'm particularly delighted to add the Arran as it was a visit to the distillery at Lochranza whilst on holiday on the island that inspired my first slow steps on what has become my malt whisky journey. I believe I left a few bottles in the shop if anybody else wants to buy at this price... |

Another couple to consider one which is not a Scottish malt the redbreast 12 and the Glenfarclas 17 which is a bit over your price range but you can pick up for £60 if you shop around both worth a try |
