Diageo has unveiled the Prima & Ultima Whisky Collection, a new premium series of single malt whiskies which will launch with eight new vintage, cask strength single malts from eight of Diageo's distilleries including Caol Ila, Clynelish, Lagavulin, Mortlach, Port Ellen, Singleton of Dufftown and Talisker.
As you can imagine you will need deep pockets if you want to get hold of a set of the Prima & Ultima Whisky Collection, it will set you back £20,000.

I wonder if they will be available individually or just as a set, not that any will be within my drinking price range. |

Bookie when they launch the Prima & Ultima Whisky Collection it will be full sets only that will be available to buy but I am told come post October of this year they will be opening it up for individual bottle sales at which time they will reveal the RRP for individual bottles. _________________ There's no bad whisky. You can more or less guess what bottles will be available individually. With 238 full sets available and the fact that they have revealed the bottle numbers for each whisky they have bottled:
Caol Ila 1984 35 Year Old - 499 bottles
Clynelish 1993 26 Year Old - 941 bottles
Cragganmore 1971 48 Year Old - 352 bottles
Lagavulin 1991 28 Year Old - 1013 bottles
Mortlach 1994 25 Year Old - 389 bottles
Port Ellen 1979 40 Year Old - 436 bottles
Singleton of Dufftown 1988 30 Year Old - 469 bottles
Talisker 1988 31 Year Old - 721 bottles
I wonder where the launch of this new Prima & Ultima series leaves the annual Diageo Special Release series. |

I would love to taste that 48 year Cragganmore, I bet I would have to sell a kidney to afford that one. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

I feel like diageo are desparate to have a 'macallan" in their range - a single malt they can market as refined, luxurious, rare and therefore very expensive. My theory is that Mortlach is their candidate for this and bundling it in with this collection in this way is part of their push to associate the mortlach name with premium and rare qualities.
