Of course, each to their own.

While MoM may not represent good value (I tend to agree) it does give you an opportunity to try something you don’t want to open. However if you are buying and drinking Brora, good luck to you. I won’t open a whisky of that expense in the dread of I don’t enjoy it.

I’m in Scotland so my options for tasting Scottish Single Malt are infinite and because I have the chance to taste at a bar, this does allow me to try what I may have in my collection and that works for me. Often this is still more expensive than MoM.

There are other companies that offer a similar service, Cheaper By The Dram bottles rarer stuff found at auction and releases as nip sized measures.

I totally agree with your comments on Macallan. It seems that the quality has dipped slowly and surely so people don’t realise. I’ve recently tasted a 1990’s 10 year old Macallan and it blew their more recent releases out of the park.

I don’t knock those who drink, collect or invest in whisky. Just the flippers.
