If you're curious as to how good Aberfeldy can be when bottled at a proper drinking strength (and possibly un-chill filtered too, though I haven't had confirmation of this), head on over to the offers and bargains section
(posted here as well because not everyone looks at the whisky events forum) |

After further correspondence with Aberfeldy, they can confirm the 200ml bottles are also un-chill filtered. |

Good research Alexppp!
I bought it last week solely for the other 2 bottlings that I've had on my hitlist, so 3 new bottles is a bonus. |

I see they produced it for a live online tasting on the 24th. Might be worth keeping an eye on the price after that date too. |

The price has gone back up to £40 but still a decent buy for the money. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

This aberfeldy is quite something! Really enjoying this quite a revelation just upping to 46%. Loads more sherried notes than I’d expect from this - slight rancio in here too but everything is still honeyed, buttery, fresh, clean and citrusy spice. I’m guessing this is a slightly different ‘blend’ than usual. Really, really well made and I’d buy another bottle without hesitation. If I would rate the normal 12 at around 80 then this would be pushing 88/9? |

Actually even though I was really looking forward to this - and indeed I had nominated the Aberfeldy 12 in the past as one of the malts I would most want to see at a higher strength - I thought it was disappointing next to the Aultmore and Craigellachie. I'm reserving definitive judgement though - as we all know whiskies change after the bottle is opened. Also, tastings often invite comparisons that we would never make if we were having a whisky on its own. For example, the Criagellachie seemed astringent coming right after the Aultmore, and going back to the Aultmore after the Criacellachie I thought it was too sweet. (neither is the case - I really like them both) |

The craigellachie and the Aultmore are both brilliant which I’ve often bought and drank this year (mainly duty free iirc) so I haven’t yet tried them and rate these very highly too. There is a chance that these also may be a different make up. It’s a Friday and the night is still young |

Having finished these bottles last night I’m in no doubt that these differ from the regular offerings from Dewars. I still think the aberfeldy is a revelation (based on previous bottlings) My preference from the 3. Amazingly the Aultmore was last. But these are all fantastic drams at realistic prices. |

I think it's all in your head Apart from the Aberfeldy that is. Personally I didn't think the Craigellachie was any different to the regular bottle. I can't be 100% sure about Aultmore because I didn't have a bottle on the go but I see no reason why it should be. Even at the tasting, they made no acknowledgement of any differences - in fact I think they poured from a 0.7l bottle of Craigellachie they already had opened, instead of the 20cl. Since they did acknowledge that the Aberfeldy was different, I don't see any reason why they would withhold that information.
Of course we could take into account batch variation, or maybe a conscious effort to put their very best casks in these 20cl bottles, in which case I guess I got lucky with my full-size Craigellachie I already had! |

I really liked the Aberfeldy at 46% like the 40% on steroids, very different to its sibling.
I hope they do a 70cl bottle? _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

I actually asked that at the live tasting, they said 'no plans, but never say never' or something along those lines. |
