Hi
We are 3 Danish guys going to Speyside in May (24-30). We seek recommendations for visits to distilleries and tours.
There are many distilleries and various tours. You have for sure visited several of them.
Our plan is to fly to Aberdeen, rent a car, and drive to accommodations, and take a taxi to the distilleries.
We will find the distilleries first and then find a place to sleep nearby.
So far, we have looked at:
Balvenie
Aberlour
Glenfarclas
Glen Moray
Benromach
GlenDronach
We see ourselves as experienced whisky lovers, and are not looking for the normal tourist tours and standard bottlings. We are willing to pay £ 50-100 for a distillery tour with tasting.
hope for help with recommendations with distilleries and tours.
Best regards, Jacob

Hi Jacob,

I have been to Balvenie, Aberlour and GlenDronach. Balvenie would be my favourite out of the 3, however they are all good! I have not been to the other distilleries and so I cannot comment on them. I would also consider Glenfiddich, as they have high end tours which are more exclusive. I believe the Pioneers tour is £95 and the tasting goes up to the 30 YO. The bar at Glenfiddich is also fantastic.

I have another unusual suggestion though. Ballindalloch Distillery. It is a very small distillery with only two stills, and a 1 tonne mash. Because of this, the tours are small (max 8) and so there is a personal feel to it. I really enjoyed it as you get to see the whole process up close. There is a tasting at the end, but it's not Ballindalloch. I'll leave that as a surprise!

That's all I've got for you now. Hopefully it helps.

Greg
