For those of you who may not have noticed, Diageo have now officially released their Special Releases 2009. I have posted the full info and tasting notes here:
http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/diageospecialreleases2009.htm
This year the set includes three 30 year old Single Malts - Talisker 30 and two further releases, from finite and declining stocks, of Port Ellen and Brora.
Other popular continuations from previous years' releases are a 12 year old Lagavulin; the famously unpeated Caol Ila (but this time in a 10 year old expression); and another majestic 25 year old Talisker.
Unusual Speysides
This year, whisky connoisseurs and collectors will also be intrigued by the presence of three differently aged, unusual and rare Speyside Single Malts: Benrinnes, rarely available as a Single Malt, Pittyvaich and Mannochmore.
For more info on each individual bottle released this year see here:

I fancy the Port Ellen and a bottle of Brora, i have never been able to get enough of them. I may have to treat myself, I havent seen them at any of the online shops yet though as they usually are a little cheaper than the RRP although £200 and £230 is not that excessive for limited release 30 year old whisky.

I noticed Diageo will have the new Special Releases available to try at The Whisky Show http://www.thewhiskyshow.com/2009 , it is always nice to be able to try before you buy especially when spending so much on a single bottle.

Martin i have been watching The Whisky Exchange for the new releases to place an order but they havent listed any of them yet, perhaps they are holding off listing them so as they have some stock to sell at the Whisky Show as Gregor says above Diageo will have the new releases at the show.
Therefore I would think The Whisky Exchange will be allocated a good share or this years releases as they have spmething to do with the show.

I alway find it is a good idea to buy the new releases as soon as they come out as sometimes it doesnt take long for the price to ramp up when the available stock goes down. The Brora and a Caol Ila for me this year if i can find get them

The Whisky Exchange have added 7 of the new 2009 special releases to the site today, they have the Port Ellen for £23o
The two bottles missing are the Talisker 25 and the Lagavulin 12, not sure if they will add them later but William did say in his piece on the new releases that:
You will find them listed in the New Products & News section of The Whisky Exchange

Cheers John
I would have thought all 9 new special releases would have been available in the UK market, perhaps The Whisky Exchange will get the others in.
