Whisky Forum - Getting nose by smelling with mouth, with a gentle inhale

So as the topic says, I've been getting the nose for long by actually using gentle and long inhale with my mouth. Doing it like that I feel like I actually taste the smell. Also, for some reason I feel the nose I get with mouth is more sensitive, I get way more out of it than with the nose. Sure, nose gives me smell but it's nowhere near as strong as with "mouth smelling". IMO this works exceptionally well with smoky Islay whisky. Almost feels like I were having a cigar. Cool

Anybody else an addict of this mouth inhale technique?

Personally I get more from taking the aromas in through the nose, I can see what you mean with the mouth inhaling though but it is not as intense for me. That's whisky for you, best drunk the way you enjoy it. Cheers

I agree with Samson on this , and you may benefit with the nose more by using a different glass than a standard Glencairn
Try a Tulip glass or a Copita, I like the Copita with a small stem and wider body to the bottom of the glass.

I have tried it but find the success I have not only depends on the type of glass but things like how long it has been since I last ate, what it was I last ate, smoke a bowl of pipe tobacco, etc. your palate & how clean it is plays a big part in the experience.
