|
|
Diageo has announced the launch of its first single-cask collection of single malt Scotch whiskies. This is the first time that Scotland's biggest estate of single malt distilleries has issued a comprehensive series of single-cask bottlings.
Labelled The Managers' Choice, the rare limited-edition series is aimed at collectors and connoisseurs who will enjoy owning and exploring an unusual expression of their favourite single malt or even a whole anthology of highly individual single malts, chosen to represent each of 27 distilleries distinctive but authentic whisky signature.
The releases are being staged in batches over the next year. September 2009 Diageo launched the first batch of Diageos first ever complete collection of single-cask malt whiskies. This first batch includes Teaninich, Glen Elgin, Linkwood, Oban, Mortlach and Cardhu single-cask malt whiskies.
Cardhu distilled 1997 - 252 bottles
Glen Elgin distilled 1998 - 534 bottles
Linkwood distilled 1996 - 480 bottles
Mortlach distilled 1997 - 240 bottles
Oban distilled 2000 - 534 bottles
Teaninich distilled 1996 - 246 bottles

Thanks for the info William, an interesting read. I know they are limited editions but they are some price for whiskies of such a young age, they really have to be good to justify the price tag. Still i wouldnt say no if given the chance to taste them.

I wonder who came up with the pricing for these, it is way over the top for whiskies that are after all only 10 - 12 year old. I am sure they are extra special drams but they can not be valued at £200 - £300 even if they were half of these prices it would have been pushing it for whisky of this age. This pricing is just wrong. Why would i buy a Talisker Managers Choice when i can get a Talisker 25 or 30 year old for less. I am sure someone will buy them but i wont at these prices.

Yes the pricing is very high for such young whiskies but the release is very limited so i dont think they will have a problem selling them all. I must say i would be tempted by a couple of there distilleries such a Lagavulin where you wouldnt see very many limited edition or independent bottlings coming out of it. I dare say there are a lot of whisky drinkers that have way more money than me, so i would think they would have no problem selling these. I bet there are a few crackers amongst this lot but working my way through them all is way beyond my finances, unfortunately.
