I finally opened my bottle of Barelling Annie Canadian Rye Whisky from Niagara Falls Craft Distillers today. Annie went over Niagara Falls in an oak barrel in 1901, no small feat and survived. Here are my taste notes:

Color: Pale Gold

Nose: Pungent coffee crisp chocolate bar, brown sugar essence, sponge candy, honey on steroids, floral, hot chocolate with marshmallow, vanilla bean explosion, caramel fudge, cookie dough, vanilla ice cream cone and butterscotch. An exceptional candy confectionery shop with a bow on top.

Taste: Creamy smooth and full-bodied, toffee rich with spicy flecks, shades of bold coffee and espresso crema.

Finish: Long, the caramel notes perseverate with black licorice and subtle spice notes that balance the sweetness. Vanilla nougat rides the waves.

Comments: This whisky is a pleasant surprise at a reasonable price point and delightful both at the olfactory level and on the palate. A great after meal or dessert whisky in my opinion.

Score: 86.5
