To all collectors out there...
What is the most expensive bottle of whisky you hold in your collection? This can be based on either the money you paid for it at the time or its estimated value now.
Conversely, do you have any bottles which you paid a high amount for that have now dropped in price?
I'm quite an amateur collector and my most valuable bottle is probably an old style Highland Park 12 year old which is worth around £150 if recent auctions are anything to go by.
Interested to hear what eclectic bottles more experienced malt heads may have! |

| I don't follow the values of what I have that closely but I do know I have some bottles in the back of the cupboard that is worth quite a bit more than I paid when they were released. My most valuable will be a few Douglas Laing and Gordon & MacPhail Port Ellen bottlings I have tucked away, they were intended to be drunk but the value of them just keeps increasing so I cant see me drinking them now. I paid around £90 for most of them around 10 years ago. |

| I don't have anything particularly expensive, most I've paid to date was £149 for a Balblair 1983 (twice). The most 'valuable' whisky on my shelves must be a Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix I've got tucked away, not sure how much it's worth now but I paid £50 when it came out. |

GlenCadam 21, @ 225.00 USD. Insane San Francisco prices.

Glengoyne 25 in the summer, cracked it open when I got engaged in December!
I got a bottle of Ben Nevis 21 Year Old Single Port Cask. Got it for £130? Worth about £500 now. It's amazing. Don't regret it |

I don't know what it cost because it was a gift from my son but I have a bottle of The Macallan 25th Anniversary. Next up would be a bottle of Glenmorangie 25 that I bought for myself. I'm 70 years old so I am not "saving" either one of them.
That said, some of my favorite Scotches are not all that expensive. |

My purchasing so far has been very modest and it's only recently that I've felt at all comfortable spending more than £30 on a single bottle. £50 is probably more like my comfort limit now.
The only exception was when I picked up a bottle of the Mogwai whisky a couple of years ago, but that was a real outlier as they're perhaps my favourite band. I think it was £55 at the time, which I remember felt like an astronomical sum for a bottle of whisky! I had the bottle signed by the band, but I don't think it's worth especially more than that now. Anyway, I plan on drinking it at some point, when the right moment arrives. |

| My most expensive bottle is Laphroaig FoL 21 which I bought for £90 when I visited the distillery. Other than that, I try to not go beyond £50 for a bottle. If I'm spending much more, I always think in my head things like "I could get three bottles of Laphroaig 10 for that" that I'd enjoy just as much (it's my favourite dram). Oh, to be rich! |

Most paid was a Dalwhinnie 36yo and a Glenfiddich 1974.
Worth the most is the '74 and a Diamond Jubilee |

| I have a few bottles that are now worth 4 figures, some were bought very cheap and some were of course bought for a fair price indeed..Incrediblyi have a glam farclas 1984 that is worth more than any port Ellen I have or have owned.. recently parted with an original release from port Ellen which was worth a few pennies, |

I managed to pick up a Macallan 40 sherry at cost just before Xmas, needed an armed escort when we left the distillery.
This is the most expensive bottle I have bought or own. |

I'm a relatively new (<3 years) scotch drinker so i have a hard time justify spending too much on a bottle, but that ceiling amount has been increasing over time.
I'm a bit of a bargain hunter, so most of the time the 'value" ( what they sell for online / auction) of the whisky is higher than what I actually paid for them, at least that's what I like to think..
My most expensive purchases in the last few years, all in $CAD: :
Talisker 25 - $185
Adelphi Glover 18 yo - $170
Tsuru 17 - $140
Glenlivet 21 Archive - $150
Macallan Edition No2 - $140
I'm guessing alot of what I bought is probably "worth" more than I paid... like Springbank 18 for $120, Compass Box Flaming Heart (2015) for $95, Bruichladdich Cuvee 382/640 for $125, etc...
I guess looking at it, right now my ceiling is ~$150.. with $185 being the absolute max.. I like to think I don't have any bottles that are worth 'less' than what I paid for them |
