Irish whiskey is storming its way into many a malt whisky drinkers cupboard, so I thought I had better start seeing what all the fuss is about.
The jack Ryan family have owned the Beggars bush pub that is located in Dublin since 1913, the family released this expression in the centenary year..
This 12yo has been matured in ex bourbon barrels, it is NCF and bottled at 46%abv. Launched in 2013, this whisky was awarded " Best Irish single malt whiskey" in 2014.

Nose.. Very fruity, lovely scents of pears, pineapple and melon, some citrus notes from orange peel and some lemon. Not too much sweetness, a little caramel and hints of toffee, a little heather note with a apple blossom note.

Palate.. Again quite fruity, instant pineapple and pear drizzled with honey, candied orange and a little bitter note from lemon peel. Some spice in the form of ginger and a little cinnamon, more caramel and a little nutty note in the background..

Finish.. A medium length with some spice and oaky notes..

Thoughts.. A lovely well balanced whiskey.. You can see why it was voted " best Irish whiskey" very smooth and much too easy to drink. Do not overlook what the Irish are doing.. Whiskey like this is here to stay..

Would I be correct in assuming that Jack Ryan was perhaps produced at Cooley and/or has something to do with the Teeling whiskey company.

Would you say it is worth its Â£52 price tag Question

You have got to love the boldness of the pricing of the Irish whiskeys which do not even name the distillery it was produced in.

Gregor after a little googling I think you may be correct in saying Jack Ryan is from Cooley and the Teeling Whiskey Company.

The Â£52 price tag is a sticking point. Some will say it is overpriced, some will say it is top end of what it is wotth.. My review is done on taste and not price.. I understand that people have different budgets.. I liked it. It is a good whiskey, very easy to drink, and has some good flavours.. My understanding is that it is from Teeling ..
