Los Angeles:

The Daily Pint - 200+ whiskies including a lot of unusual independent bottlings. Besides the expensive malts the bar is very casual.

7 Grand - Also 200+ whiskies but mainly original bottlings with a wider selection of types -- bourbon, rye, singlemalts, etc. More upscale.

Thanks John, glad to here you like it. We've had fun building the site (what you see now is version 3) and more fun tasting all the whisky!

Chicago has a bar called the Duke of Perth, which I like to visit when I'm in the city. Owned by a Glaswegian, they have a respectable whisky menu. In Madison, WI the best places for whisky are Maduro, the Malt House, and Brocach. There is also a place that is soon to open called Nostrano which should have a pretty good selection as well.

Louisville, KY...

Proof on Main is a superb place to try many different Bourbons, they run the gamut in price and flavor. Their food is fantastic as well.
http://www.proofonmain.com

Bourbon's Bistro is also an excellent spot to enjoy some great Kentucky spirits.
http://www.bourbonsbistro.com

The Galt House hotel in downtown Louisville is a historic location which includes Jockey Silks Bourbon Bar and the incomparable Jeff Ruby's Steak House. He has a location in Cincinnati and a second place in Cincinnati called The Precinct.

The Old Seelbach Bar is located in the Seelbach Hotel, it is the hotel that served as F. Scott Fitzgerald's inspiration for The Great Gatsby. It has been restored to its authentic, early 1900's d?cor.

Of course, if you're in town you can always do the KY Urban Bourbon Trail http://www.bourboncountry.com/urban-bourbon/ then also do the original KYBourbon trail, http://www.kybourbontrail.com/ which is a wonderful tour.http://seelbachhilton.com/

If anyone comes for a visit, please let me know as I am always looking for a great excuse to go a Draming and in the case of a visitor from a far away land (or even from Indiana) my wife can't possibly say no... can she?

Old post but now that one of my kids lives in the Louisville area I'll take a chance you might still be around to thank you for the list, & to ask about Book & Bourbon; is it just an airport bar? I've been intrigued from pictures but I drive to Louisville & never make it in to the airport. Are there other locations?

Kansas City, MO -- full of music venues some of which do have good bars; restaurants, microbreweries, & social clubs. When you sort it all out these are some of the best for Single Malt Whisky:

Harry's Country Club -- probably the best Scotch Whisky & other premium whiskey bar in Western Missouri & all of Kansas. Easily 200+ bottles, the emphasis is not on beer. A great place to try a new dram. Nice vintage bar & fixtures.

Julep Whiskey House & Cocktail Club -- specializing in handcrafted cocktails but with 200+ bottles you can easily buy a dram. They are young but probably the most knowledgeable bartenders around are working there. Draws a young social crowd of an evening.

Green Lady Lounge -- Jazz & Blues music venue with a very good liquor bar. Located in a sports entertainment district it draws everything from the business professional to the professional & college sports fans.
https://m.facebook.com/GreenLadyLounge/

The Pendergast Cigar Club -- Members only but the Jazz Club is open to the public. Fully stocked quality whisky bar. Members can keep their own Whisky lockers.

The Craic -- A new Irish bar open less than a yr before the covid pandemic hit. I hope they can survive the downturn. A great selection of Irish Whiskey & Bourbon, with a decent selection of Scotch Single Malt Whisky. And of course, Guinness on tap.

I'll leave off with those.
